In pop culture, a "parley" (often colloquially spelled "parlay") is a negotiation conference between enemies to discuss terms of a truce.
Two pirate crews discover the same treasure map. Instead of fighting, the captains raise white flags. During the parley, they learn: Crew A has cannons but no navigator.
