Storage Spaces is a modern virtualization technology that performs the same functions as Dynamic Disks (pooling drives, resiliency, thin provisioning) but does so at a higher level of abstraction and with better management tools.
A proprietary Microsoft volume management format introduced with Windows 2000. It replaces partitions with volumes that can span multiple physical disks. It stores configuration data in a 1MB "Logical Disk Manager" (LDM) database at the end of the drive. basic vs dynamic disk
