If buying from an individual, ask for photos of the internal wiring. If the wires look like a "rat's nest" or there is globby solder everywhere, the console may have boot-time issues or hardware failure later on.
There is an old adage in the modding community: "There is no such thing as a cheap RGH, only a subsidized headache." Many modders offer "Send-In" services. You mail them your console, they mod it, and mail it back. Usually $40–$60 plus shipping. If buying from an individual, ask for photos
The cheap RGH is not a product; it is a project. Buy it only if you are willing to finish the job the seller started. Many modders offer "Send-In" services
One of the biggest compromises with budget RGH consoles is the quality of the timing files and the chip itself.
If you own a compatible Xbox 360 (Trinity, Corona, Falcon), parts cost as little as $10–$15 for a PicoFlasher and resistor (RGH 3). You’ll need:
❌ Xbox 360 E (Winchester board) – Can’t be RGH’d at all. ❌ Xbox 360 with a dead DVD drive – RGH doesn’t fix hardware failure. ❌ “RGH USB” or “Softmod” – The 360 has no softmod. If it claims USB-only mod, it’s a scam.
