Real-world factions invade the simulation, fan-favorite characters (Sinon, Leafa, and even Yuuki ) log in to help, and Kirito... well, he suffers a fate worse than death. Without spoilers: the War of Underworld arc has one of the most cathartic "return of the hero" moments in anime.
