Xvid Video Codec 2024
Technically, Xvid should be dead. It is a relic of the MPEG-4 Part 2 standard (ASP), an ancestor to the mighty H.264 and the modern H.265/HEVC codecs that power Netflix and YouTube. Compared to modern compression, Xvid is inefficient. A file that takes up 1GB in Xvid could likely be compressed to 300MB in H.265 with better visual fidelity.
As of 2024, in the general consumer or professional market. It has been superseded by H.264 (AVC), H.265 (HEVC), and royalty-free codecs like AV1 and VP9. xvid video codec 2024
