Throughout the episode, the Cooper family dynamic is on full display. Missy tries to get Sheldon to roll over and play dumb, while Georgie attempts to assert his dominance. Meanwhile, Mary tries to instill some sense of spirituality in Sheldon, but her efforts are largely unsuccessful.

Sheldon is ill-equipped for this emotional task. He attempts to apply logic to the situation but finds human mating rituals inefficient. Eventually, Paige reveals she doesn't actually want to reject James; she wants to know if he is "worthy" of dating her. The two engage in a behavioral experiment of sorts, observing James at the mall. Sheldon acts as a cynical wingman/consultant, analyzing James's interests (specifically his appreciation for the film Wayne’s World ).
