Leakage, however, represents a breach of the vessel's integrity. A disposal is a pressure vessel of sorts, and water escaping from it attacks the very cabinetry it rests upon. Leaks generally originate from three points: the sink flange (the connection between the sink and the unit), the dishwasher input, or the bottom of the unit. A leak from the sink flange is a failure of the plumber’s putty seal—a fix requiring the unit to be unmounted and reseated.
