Toss in a few lemon or orange peels while running the disposal for a natural deodorizer. 3. Cleaning the P-Trap (For Serious Odors)
When simple chemical reactions fail, mechanical intervention is necessary. For pop-up stoppers found in bathroom sinks, the solution often lies in physical removal. Most stoppers can be unscrewed or disconnected from the pivot rod located under the sink. Once removed, a significant amount of hair and soap accumulation is usually visible. A pair of needle-nose pliers or a simple wire coat hanger can be used to pull this "slug" of debris out of the drain. In the kitchen, where the trap (the U-shaped pipe under the sink) is the usual site of clogs, a plastic drain snake or zip-it tool can be inserted to hook and extract trapped food waste. For more stubborn blockages, placing a bucket under the trap and unscrewing the slip nuts to manually clean the pipe is the most effective method.
Sometimes the smell or clog is physically stuck in the parts you can see (and some you can’t).
